Republican Terrance Freeman has won the race for Jacksonville’s At-Large Group 1 Council seat, beating Democrat Lisa King by 53.85% to 46.15%, according to unofficial returns Tuesday night.

Freeman currently serves as District 10’s City Councilman, which covers parts of Northwest Jacksonville.

He was appointed by former Florida Gov. Rick Scott to replace indicted Councilman Reggie Brown last year.

Freeman’s selection by Scott was challenged in court on the grounds that he didn’t live in the district at the time of the appointment, but that suit was dismissed. Freeman declined interview invitations from WJCT News in advance of the May 14 runoff election.

King is the former chair of the Duval County Democratic Party and previously served on the City Planning Commission.  A profile of King is available here.
